“My husband
did not offend me, I was just mad at him.” This was the confession of a
39-year-old woman, Mrs. Omotayo Salawudeen, who reportedly killed her
Salawuden
stepped on his wife’s toes by marrying a second wife. This came as a
yet-to-be-identified man has allegedly stabbed his 11-year-old son, Favour
Oyediran, and abandoned him inside the bush in Ogun State. Omotayo, who was
apprehended with her alleged accomplice, Oladapo Dolapo, was paraded yesterday
by the Commissioner of Police, Olafimihan Adeoye, at the state Police Command
Headquarters.
The suspects
are being interrogated by detectives attached to the State Criminal
Investigations Department (SCID). Omotayo said: “I hired Oladapo Dolapo to help
me kill my husband at my own desire. Before killing him, I even had sexual
intercourse with my late husband, Alhaji Salawudeen Hakeem. “We have been
married for 17 years, we are blessed with three children aged 12, 15 and 17.
He did not
offend me, I was just mad at him. “I choked him with pillow, after having sex
and Dolapo stabbed him to death with a knife. “I regret my action. I did not
know it would feel this way. “My late husband was a good person who always took
care of my needs and that of my children but it was just my desire to kill him
for marrying another wife.
“Dolapo, who
I contracted to perpetrate the act, was a former convict.” In his own
confession, Dolapo said: “I actually stabbed the late Salawudeen while Omotayo
covered his head with a pillow until he died.
“Omotayo
contracted me to punish her husband by killing him, with a promise to give me
whatever I requested, if the operation was successful. “Omotayo enticed me to
commit the crime by promising me a befitting accommodation and other largesse.”
The
Commissioner of Police, Adeoye, said that investigation revealed that Omotayo
did not only hire Dolapo but she actively participated in killing her
husband. He therefore warned members of the public to be wary of marital or
domestic dispute by promptly reporting such to the police for necessary action.
Adeoye
promised that the suspects would be arraigned as soon as investigation was
concluded. The commissioner said that Adesina Jimoh Salawudeen of Number 3,
Engneer Adesina Salawu Street, Osogbo, came to the station on May 12 and
reported that on the same day at 3a.m. two unknown men entered his brother’s
house located at No 11, Adeniran Street, Alleluyah Estate, Osogbo and stabbed
him to death with a knife and that nothing was stolen.
He said: “A
team of police directives and patrol men went to the scene where inscription
was found on the wall of the deceased house ‘No Price No Pay, Aye Axe and
Forgiveness is a sin’. “Oladapo Dolapo was the first to be arrested in
connection with the murder of Salawudeen.”
Meanwhile,
Favour was stabbed and left for dead on Sunday near the President Muhammadu
Buhari Estate on the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway, Ogun State. It was learnt
that the father had lured Favour into the bush on the fateful day. The suspect
was said to have stabbed his son in several parts of the body, including the
neck and abandoned him after the victim pretended that he was dead. It was
learnt that Favour was living at Abule Agbon, located between Kobape and
Abeokuta, with his father, stepmother and her two children.
A good
Samaritan, who was passing by, was said to have rescued the boy after he
crawled out of the bush. Our correspondent learnt that the badly injured boy
was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, where he was
admitted at the Children’s Ward.
A source,
who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Favour’s mother had separated from
his father, and that the latter frequently maltreated him. The source added
that the father had once complained that the son embarrassed him “too often by
reporting him to the Baale (village head) each time he is assaulted by his
father”.
When
contacted, the FMC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olusegun Orisajo, disclosed
that the victim had undergone surgery at the hospital and was now in a stable
condition. Orisajo, however, said that the privacy of the victim must be
respected.
When
contacted yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola
Oyeyemi, said he has yet to be briefed about the incident by the Divisional Police
Officer in charge of the area.
