A graduate
of Engineering from the University of Benin has been brutally murdered by some
unknown armed men who took away his valuables yesterday.
Samuel
Collins was gunned down by armed men in Bayelsa State
A young man
identified as Samuel Collins, a graduate of Engineering from the University of
Benin was yesterday shot dead by gunmen suspected to be
armed robbers and
cultists in Bayelsa state.
Prosper
Collins bereaved brother Prosper Collins shared the graphic photos on Facebook
writing: "What a Black and Dark Saturday, I was just at home, when MY
Younger Brother Murphy called on me with a deep Groaning Tone, shouting were
are U??? 3 or more times, with tension and confessions, all I COULD SAY was
what? Then the news so traumatizing, that my Younger Brother SAMUEL COLLINS,
Has been killed by an unknown GUN MEN, LIFELESS BODY IN THE POOL OF HIS BLOOD,
just at the entrance of his resident close to NDDC KPANSIA at the hours of
9:05pm 24th June 2017, His phone and Wallet was taken away; what is YENEGOA
TURNING INTO, life's aren't secured or valued anymore, wow!!!! Oh death. What's
happening to our SOCIETY? MAY UR SOUL REST IN PEACE, ALL I CAN IS GOD KNOWS
BETTER."
The Police
Public Relations Officer at the Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat, said
preliminary investigation showed that the killing was cult related adding that
detailed investigation was ongoing to unravel those behind the dastardly act
and apprehend them.
According to
the police, the incident occurred on Saturday evening on Melford Okilo Road,
INEC/Kpansia area of Yenagoa metropolis.
Mr. Collins
was accosted by the hoodlums at INEC Road junction on his way to the Nigerian
Content Development and Management Board’s office on Isaac Boro Expressway,
where he was undergoing training.
According to
witnesses at the scene, the young man was gunned down when he tried to drag his
phones and valuables with his assailants.
A witness,
who wished anonymity, said Mr. Collins was shot by the gunmen at a close range
on his head.
He said the
bullets from the hoodlums’ guns shattered the victim’s head resulting in
massive loss of blood out of his brain. The gunmen abandoned the lifeless body
of their victim, fled the scene after making away with his phone, money and
other valuables.
The victim
gave up the ghost after struggling with death for some minutes before help
could come his way belatedly. Some of his friends described Mr. Collins as an
easy-going and brilliant young man.
They
confirmed that the police had since removed his body and deposited it at the
morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
According to
them, arrangements were being made to take his remains to his hometown, Port
Harcourt, Rivers for burial.
